The miniature Wenatchee Riverfront Railway will begin its 2010 season during Apple Blossom weekend in Wenatchee. The 10-inch-gauge railway, which winds through a layout of bridges, trestles and rails along the Columbia River, will be operating on Saturday and Sunday, April 24 and 25, from 1 to 5 p.m. It also will operate Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2, during the same hours.
The train was donated to the City of Wenatchee by the late Nile Saunders, a tree fruit grower who offered free rides to families through his Peshastin pear orchard for many years. It is now operated by volunteers with the nonprofit Wenatchee Riverfront Railway and Navigation Company, an affiliate of the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center. The full 2010 schedule may be viewed online here. Rides are $2 for children and $3 for adults. The station is located in Riverfront Park just below the “Riverwalk Crossing” pedestrian overpass.
