Environmental Film: The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil

This vibrant, hopeful film brings to light how a small island nation responded to a sudden drop in oil supplies. When Cuba's hefty subsidies of oil, food and other goods ceased after the Soviet Union collapsed and the U.S. tightened its embargo, Cubans experienced intermittent electric power, very limited public and private transportation, lack of available parts to fix farm machinery, and a corresponding drop in food production. But Cuba bounced back. This inspiring 53-minute film offers a living model of sustainability as Cubans tell the remarkable story of their nation's recovery and its transition to organic agriculture, renewable energy, effective mass transit, lowered consumption and better health. The film series is presented by the Wenatchee Valley Museum, Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and Trust for Public Land. The film is sponsored by Wenatchee Row & Paddle Club.

DAMN YANKEES

Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 4 pm and 8 pm

A grand slam box-office bonanza, Damn Yankees is a slam-bang smash! This musical, with 13 Tony Nominations and 8 wins including Best Musical, is coming to the PAC on February 28 for two shows at 4pm and 8pm.

Damn Yankees opens in 1956 where "baseball widows" in Washington, D.C. are commiserating about their husbands, who do nothing but watch and cheer for their beloved Washington Senators six months out of every year. Disheartened by another loss for the Senators, Joe Boyd mutters that he would sell his soul to the devil for "one long ball hitter" on the Senators. Enter Satan himself in the form of a charismatic conman to make Joe make good on this bet.  Click here to read more.

Filled with hit songs like "Whatever Lola Wants" and "You Gotta Have Heart", this show is a musical comedy home run! Catch this 2011-12 national tour coming right here to Wenatchee (before it goes to Seattle)! Call 509.663.ARTS for tickets!  Tickets are $35 for PAC Members, $37 for Seniors, $32 for Students (16 & under) and $40 for Adults.
