Saturday, Feb. 4, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.People of Our Past 2012 Wenatchee Valley Museum, 127 S. Mission Street History comes alive at the museum on Saturday, Feb. 4, as visitors interact with local actors portraying real people from Wenatchee area history. This year’s characters are Fern Prowell, first Apple Blossom queen; A.Z. Wells, hardware store owner and philanthropist; Dr. Minnie Simmons, Wenatchee’s first female physician; and Conrad Rose, early apple marketer and shipper. Visitors will hear brief stories, then ask questions about the characters’ lives.Cost: Admission is by donation.

Saturday, Feb. 25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Secrets of the Shrub SteppeWenatchee Valley Museum, 127 S. Mission StreetExplore the special adaptations of plants and animals that inhabit the arid landscape of the Columbia Plateau during this family-friendly event at the museum. Find out what coyotes eat, unravel the mysteries of animal tracking, inhale the aroma of sage and pine, dissect an owl pellet, and learn which critters are active in the dark! Hear and identify bird songs and take home handouts with much information about local birds. Appreciate the beauty of our natural landscape with a variety of hands-on experiences. The event is free to members of the museum, Barn Beach Reserve, NCW Audubon and Chelan-Douglas Land Trust. Cost: $5 adults, $4 seniors, $2 kids 6-12; $10 maximum per family. Members and kids under 6 free.
