The Wenatchee World was founded on July 3, 1905 and then sold two years later to Rufus Woods. Woods gained national fame by leading a 23-year fight for the construction of Grand Coulee Dam and the Columbia Basin Project. During this time, Rufus and his cousin Warren Woods built a newspaper that covered all of North Central Washington. Their sons, Wilfred And Robert Woods, took over in the 1950s and the leadership was passed to third generation publisher Rufus G. Woods in 1997. It remains one of the last family-owned information companies in the region. The Wenatchee World is a six-day a week newspaper serving Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan and Grant Counties. With over 25,000 subscribers, The World remains the most dominant media source in North Central Washington.
